Cranky, Tired, Fatigued, When You've Got A Bad Attitude: The Workout For When You Don't Feel Like Working Out - (Stiff Hips, Chronic Upper + Lower Back Pain) Primal Prowess No. 71420
I spent all day Friday prepping my drone and camera gear, Saturday filmed all day outside with a heat index of 108 degrees, Sunday I logged 9 hours video editing. All this to say, this morning, I was tired, unmotivated, and the last thing I wanted to do was workout. I’d rather sulk, be in my fatigued, uncomfortable, angsty state emotionally, mentally, physically, rather than workout. I have no pep in my step this morning. I have no extra pizazz to offer. I don’t want to work out. I’m not “excited” to workout.
…Sound familiar?
But you know what’s lies just beyond your I-don’t-feel-like-it threshold? Fresh air, a clean slate, a fresh perspective, fresh oxygen for your mind and mood to see things differently.
This is the perfect “not in the mood to workout” workout.
Let me tell you why:
The Tunes.
We start off in the feels and we build our way up.
We get all moody with Big Sean and Lil Wayne, still totally allowed to be grouchy, but enough of a pulse and a beat to get your mind to go, “Oh hey, I think we’re doing something…Something’s happening.”
Then we roll into “Rum and Raybans” — we bring it up - little more high energy (but not too much, okay, because we’re cranky, okay. We’re respecting the crankiness.)
Then I Take You To Shakira.
We take a stroll down memory lane and I bring you to Benny Benassi and Shakira, and we roll through a couple great beat drops.
I take you to the queen: Dev.
We bring in some sexy saxophone, get all sultry, and the next thing you know my dear, you’re dancin’ in the dark.
Dev gets her beats fast and her bass (and our butts) down low.
We bring in a little soca and pay homage to Vybz Kartel, still in our sultry feels.
Then we totally hoe out with Sexy Bitch.
Yep. This was one of my first songs where I was like, “Wait a second, the sexy bitch…is that…is that me? I…I think, yeah, I.. I AM THE SEXY BITCH!”
Then we drop into our souls. The blues. Stevie Ray Vaughn (my man.) Hozier does his rendition of Led Zeppelin. We get mad at the way she loves us, with Anthony Hamilton, because dang it, we’re just mad at the way we love ourselves because we’re still freakin’ here. 45 minutes into a bangin’ workout that we started off saying “uh-uh. No way. I am not in the mood to workout. No sir.”
Then we go to church.
Our soul’s church. We get low with James Vincent Morrow, burn with Foy Vance into approaching our hips with a conscious, thoughtful way. We’re not just sluffing into pigeon. We move with skill into pigeon, and explore the inconvenient parts of our hips (and emotions.)
And we cry (optional)
We leave what’s heavy behind, sped some emotional weight, our sadness, our expectations - we move with all of it as Birdtalker serenades us.
Johnnyswim helps us touch the Heaven within ourselves as we let go and go in during savasana.
I’m on the other side of the workout, and I’m here to tell you it was a game changer. And if you haven’t recognized this in your own body yet — it always is.
So I double-dog-dare you: Do it. Do this workout. Cranky? Pissed off? Lethargic? Unmotivated? * gasp * Angry at yourself? Do this workout.
Curated from someone who was NOT in the mood, but did it anyway. And magic happened.
Have fun with this one and let me know how you feel on the other side!!

Stuck, Cranky, Irritable, Demotivated Energy - The Workout For When The Last Thing You Want To Do Is Workout- Primal Prowess No. 71420
(Releasing Upper-Midback, and Releasing Chronic Lowback Pain)
Energetic Vibes: If you’re cranky, angry, frustrated with your body, fatigued, exhausted/tired/demotivated and don’t want to do anything in life (dare I say a little depressed * gasp * ) — this is your jam.
Movement Emphasis: We layered into the low body - ankle stability, hip flexors, chronic low back pain releases (targeting the psoas, hip flexors, gluteus medius and minimus (AKA saddlebag/side butt muscles).
Intensity: 3 out of 5 (We went easy on the arm strength/upper body, more fluid stretching and strengthening emphasis. No crazy sprint moments, no crazy jumping.)
Feels Like: When you’re in a puddle of the-last-thing-i-want-to-do-is-workout thinking, your body feels tense and tight and constricted — this is your movement practice.
Moon Phase: PMS, full moon, leading up to full moon.
Metaphysical Vibes: When you want to protect your heart, just went through some hard confrontations, a fight with a lover, and you feel your mid back bracing — this practice will work with you to move and soothe that constriction. When I film wedding days I’m carrying heavy cameras straight out in front of me, and my mid-upper back get so locked up - which also correlates with the heart chakra and wanting to “guard your heart”— so this practice is tailored to creating opening and ease in your mid back and lower back through the hip-openers and psoas releasing movements we targeted.
