Crowdfunding Case Study: Project Newfound Freedom

The Newfound Freedom project is a collaboration between Cabrinha Kiteboarding & Estuary Brewing Company designed to bring adventure back into the lives of disabled special forces veterans through extreme windsports weekend intensive clinics with some of Cabrinha’s top athletes and staff.

In addition to crowdfunding, a limited edition 'Drifter' Coast-to-Coast Lager was produced by Estuary Brewing to help raise funds to support the initiative.

We were brought on to build, launch, and execute the crowdfunding marketing photo and video campaign—starting with these Crowdfunding pilot videos to raise funds to support the initiative so we could launch the first clinic. (Browse the photo gallery for this crowdfunding campaign here)

Project Newfound Freedom: Initial Crowdfunding Pilot Videos

We built three primary crowdfunding videos, supporting assets featuring the signature beer for the event, and some light-hearted to delight the local community in seeing some familiar brewery faces and build buzz featuring a local pro athlete in a “Don’t Spill Your Beer” Kitefoiling challenge.

Our target marketing objectives goals were threefold:

Attract donors across all channels, attract momentum in the kitesurfing and extreme watersports community on Cabrinha’s channels, and build energy in the localized brewery community for the upcoming local clinic event.

Crowdfunding Video Campaign Phase Two: Inaugural Clinic Weekend

Once our funding objectives were met from our initial Crowdfunding Pilot, Project Newfound Freedom launched it’s first weekend intensive bringing in 20 special forces veterans and their families for a weekend of instruction and fun with some of the top kiteboarding athletes in the world.

Our objective for this next phase was to document the energy of the weekend for both the attendees as well as the instructors through testimonial videos, two clinic recap stories, and use these video assets as for the next round of crowdfunding to scale launching the next three clinics for the year.

Summary: This Inaugural clinic was widely received, published and featured in Kiteboarder magazine, and the campaign met its goals of funding the two other clinics for the year in Miami and Hood River.
