Jesse and Bo's Coastal Marsh-Chic Charleston Wedding At The Island House On Johns Island, SC Wedding Venue

Okay, how cool is it that Jesse and Bo are both in the veterinarian field, love EDM music and The Killers (Mr. Brightside, anyone?!), and have the coolest, most vibrant freakin' families of all time. Two words I'd use to describe these sweet humans…

Party. Animals.

Jesse and Bo were all about the casual, low-stress marsh-chic wedding vibe. Spending time with them and their friends during the wedding day, you'll quickly realize that couldn't be more apparent.

These two are light-hearted, animal lovers, salt of the earth, and like to party…so the wedding video edit needed to match. Not cliche sappiness, but genuine, unfiltered moments.

The Venue: Marsh-Chic Wedding Vibes — The Island House On Johns Island, SC

The Island House is such a unique, historical waterfront Charleston venue. You come down this beautiful winding road, finding yourself becoming further and further removed from the hustle and bustle of Charleston. From a sound engineering perspective — this venue is such a gem — you get waterfront views, an amazing dock to go out on for photos, perfect lighting for the sun setting for the ceremony, and minimal background noise in terms of any surrounding activity. No loud traffic, drunk people walking by to scream “CONGRATULATIONS!” in the middle of your vows, none of that. Located on John’s Island, the Island House is a total hidden gem for Charleston venues.

It’s an authentic Charleston experience — waterfront, marsh front views, marsh BIRDS walking around the ceremony layout, and…

DID I MENTION THE DOLPHINS?!

…Yeah, you heard me. I can't think of too many other venues where your guests might spot a SCHOOL OF DOLPHINS cruising by before your wedding procession. We lucked out -- Isabelle was upstairs with the girls before the ceremony catching some behind the scenes candid moments, and I was setting up our camera angles at the ceremony — we both documented real-time the dolphins and Jesse and the girls' reaction as they peaked out of the Bridal Suite window seeing the family of dolphins swimming by! Such a fun moment!

And We Got To Work With One Of Our Besties…Charleston Wedding Photographer Andrea Fabian.

Let me proudly brag about our girl Andrea Fabian for a moment. We know her personally from the Charleston salsa dancing scene (yes, we have the biggest girl crush on her of all time), and it's no surprise when it comes to wedding photography; Andrea freakin' slays it. We have the unique vantage point of working alongside dozens and dozens and doozzeennnss of photographers in the Charleston area over the last decade, so we get to see the whole process - the in-person experience AND see the finished photos.

I can confidently say Andrea has it DIALED IN.

Andrea Fabian is the cream of the crop when it comes to wedding photographers. Welcoming energy, great presence, a strong lead, and has such grace with how she directs and commands a room. She has such an inclusive, welcoming vibe with her couples and their friends and family, is so strong when it comes to giving you direction on posing, mixing up a variety of group shots, is not afraid to jump in, and clearly articulate little details. I love how she was such a hype woman on Jesse and Bo's day and constantly had an eye out for some of the posing details that mattered to Jesse. We can't recommend her enough.

THE SOUNDSCORE: Choosing The Music Of This Marsh-Chic Wedding Video

The music — now, many of you know how I feel about the music and sound scoring in a wedding video. It completely makes or BREAKS a wedding video!

When I first chatted with Jesse, I instantly got that resonance I look for in clients — she wanted the REAL moments, the REAL story of the day. It mattered so much to her to see the moments within moments. Not staged, cheese-o reactions, but just those genuine moments of her and the girls cutting up, the boys being boys, seeing her family having a BLAST on the dance floor — she wanted to see the energy of the day.

I fell in love with their friend group and how playful everyone was — from the girls being goofy and crackin' up getting ready together — my first impression of Jesse's girl gang was walking upstairs to hear them singing "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" by Celine Dion…and I was in love.

I knew sound scoring was gonna be a big part of reflecting how playful and fun this group of friends are, and boy did I go to town.

Charley Crockett, Gryffin, Two Feet, Ghostland Observatory, The Floozies: The Soundscore

Knowing Jesse and Bo love some EDM (one of my favorite genres to edit to — so much freedom with the technicality of the music!) as well as a little T. Swift — I wanted to mix it up in terms of soundscoring the day.

Ghostland Observatory

So we start playful with some Ghostland Observatory (what whaaaat - paying a little homage to my Austin, Texas roots!) then go into something sweeter and heartfelt with the first look - I was really leaning into the lyrics for that moment when Jesse walks up to Bo. She was so nervous — and he caught that by hearing her breathing — and absolutely matched her in saying, "I'm so nervous, too! I'm right there with you!"

Charley Crockett

I had to bust out a little Charley Crockett with the boys hangin' and FISHING in their SUITS—- that was so awesome!! This was the first wedding we've documented where the groomsmen could fish, dog at their side before the ceremony. EPIC. Again — major PRO for The Island House venue! :) I thought that was such sweet energy to roll into the bubbly vibe of their friends and family showing up for the ceremony.

Two Feet + The Floozies

Cocktail Hour and their gorgeous portrait montages, I wanted something really dynamic to edit with, so I chose "Until I Come Home" by Grandson and Two Feet (my favorite!)

Not a song most people may think of as a wedding song, but I thought it fit perfect for how Jesse and Bo relate with one another — all of their travels and how their careers have taken them all over the place, including a recent move — the notion of being home is with one another couldn't be more true.

Disciples, Kieza, Route 94, To Gryffin

The medley for the reception I wanted that mix of how playful and high vibe THA WHOLE CREW was — we're talkin' the beautiful grandparents and relatives with the moves (what a legacy of couples in that classic Who's-Been-Married-The-Longest dance! WOW!) — all the way to the little ones running with neon glow sticks in the yard. I played with a fun transition start and stop for playing with some dynamic cuts for the reception, and our end result was that crescendo into Jesse and Bo's surreal, magical sparkler exit.
